Rise of Annelida is a story about five colorful worms embarking on the adventure of their lives as they seek out the truth behind the mysterious obelisks!
Behind the comic (Spoilers ahead)
The original idea for Rise of Annelida started back in about 2018, a good bit before I started on my first comic; The Lost Soul. Rise of Annelida was an idea derived from a dream where I was reading a webcomic about worms and wild stuff happening to them. I toyed with the idea for a while before setting it aside, and eventaly even scrapping the idea thinking it was too ridiculous and no one would be interested. Despite all this I had fully drafted the comic and even wrote out a huge chunk of the script.
It wasn’t until a couple years later when I was getting close to finishing The Lost Soul, that I had mentioned the scarped project to a group of other webcomic folks. I shared what concept art I had drawn and they all loved the idea of the comic! This reignited my interest in the project and I began working on it again, and also trying to figure out how these worms were gonna look and move. As well as revise and wrap up the script.
I’m so glad that I did end up pursing the story, I learned so much along the way, especially as it massively contrasted my previous comic. The ending as well was inspired by my own life as pre-pandemic my dad and I would frequent the theaters and having to look up whether or not there was an after credits scene was a pretty common occurrence!
Over all I just love how this story came together and how much I learned along the way. Having working on A Queens Diary after this one definitely was a throw back to my The Lost Soul days with the more fantastical details. I very much am looking forward to returning to a similar style and workflow as Rise of Annelida had.
